Throughout history religion has been used as a tool to control the masses, specific people in positions of power use the scriptures for personal gain. It is no secret that religions such as Christianity and Islam were forced upon African people worldwide. It is also no secret that black people in America are some of the most religious people on earth, but also suffer the most and lack resources. Are we using religion as a tool of empowerment or are we using it as a coping mechanism? Do we take the time to understand the scriptures before we integrate the information into our cultures?
