Black Girls Hockey Club, Tunisha Singleton, Ph.D. InterviewJoseph had the privilidge of interviewing Dr. Tunisha Singleton about the Black Girls Hockey Club. Dr. Singleton sits on the BGHC Board of Directors Programming Committee and aspires to work with more organizations on projects surrounding sports and society, mental health, multiculturalism, and race/gender/LGBTQ empowerment. She is also a Media Psychologist and emerging media, marketing and digital communications consultant. In addition to business consulting and serving Fielding Graduate University’s Department of Psychology as Adjunct Faculty, Dr. Singleton has turned her attention to tackling her passion in sports, working to boost fan engagement, build community relationships, and plant engaging touch points to fasten a supportive relationship between sports and society.

In HBCU news, Ms. "Quadruple Double" Shakyla Hill, former star of the Grambling State University women's basketball team is using her platform to give back in the form of scholarships. According to an article by The Atlantic, high school athletes are struggling with anxiety and depression now more than ever. Several Major League Baseball players have tested positive for COVID-19 causing some games to be canceled. The NFL preseason was canceled due to COVID-19. Will we have an NFL season this year? The NFL is looking to fight domestic violence better by having talks of banning non-disclosure agreements. Michael Jordan donates $2.5 million to help fight black voter suppression. In HBCU news, North Carolina A&T State University's football team is searching for a way to play football in 2020. World Team Tennis player Danielle Collins was dismissed from the tournament for leaving the bubble and leaving the state which was a violation of their COVID-19 protocol. Tracy McGrady and Jermaine O'Neal are starting a sports agency. New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is in the hot seat for allegedly making racist and sexist comments. A number of NBA players are named to be the latest confirmed cases of the Coronavirus for the NBA, the NFL's Washington franchise announced they were changing their nickname after years of refusing to change the name, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was suspended without pay for a flagrant email he sent to Sen. Josh Hawley, #freewoj. The NBA has a "snitch line" to help keep anyone from breaking the rules of the bubble, Dwight Howard was already warned for not wearing a mask. A 12 year old in England was arrested for sending a racist message to professional soccer player Wilfried Zaha. Joseph was joined by Cam and Mike, host of the Nothing Above The Moon Podcast. The gentlemen discussed the NFL playing the Lift Every Voice, the Black National Anthem, before every home game during week one. Does it make sense for sports to return during the middle of the current COVID-19 Pandemic? Would the return of sports be a distraction from the BLM protest against police violence? FedEx, Nike and other companies who are invested in the Washington Redskins have demanded that the name of the team is changed, former Florida State University football players are leading a petition to change the name of Doak Campbell Stadium.
