Don't Believe The Hype: Is Black America Really As Bad As We Are Depicted To Be?

Propaganda and mythology controlled by the dominant culture have spread negative messages about black people for ages. Because most of the media is controlled by white supremacist the image of black people in America is less than becoming. We are depicted as lazy, hyper aggressive, too educated for our counterparts, poor parents, abusive, emotionally unstable, and we don't love ourselves. Some members of black America may have the characteristics but they do not represent us as a whole; a bigger problem is black Americans have began to believe the hype. When oppressed people begin to believe in their oppression and the factors that facilitate it, they will remain oppressed and even teach their children how to be oppressed. We have to learn to look beneath the surface, research for ourselves and tell our own stories. We can no longer be comfortable with our oppressors selling us lies about ourselves.
