During this episode of Lessons from the Screen we will be looking at the looming water crisis in South Africa. We will also be digging a little bit into the water shortages across the continent, and of course, things we can learn from these situations.
Cape Town, South Africa is only months away from turning off its taps. As the worst drought in the last 100 years continues to march on the city of roughly 4 million people finds itself struggle to deal with a shortage of one of the most precious resources on the planet, drinkable water. The effects of this go far beyond people being thirsty as the nation is still dealing with massive inequality issues. From another angle water shortages have been a constant on the continent for quite some time. Much of the continent simply doesn’t have the resources to find reliable safe clean water and for those nations that do, they face physical water scarcity.
